Medics rush to scene as World Cup camera operator brutally WIPED OUT by Man City star in Uzbekistan vs Colombia

It’s not the kind of footage anyone expected to come out of a FIFA World Cup qualifier, but here we are.

During the match between Uzbekistan and Colombia, a pitchside camera operator found themselves in the wrong place at entirely the wrong time when Manchester City star Jahangir Umarov went thundering into the advertising hoardings at full pace, sending both player and cameraman sprawling across the turf in a collision that left the crowd audibly gasping.

Medics sprinted onto the scene within seconds. The camera operator, whose name hasn’t been officially confirmed, was attended to on the ground for several minutes while play was held up. It looked genuinely nasty, the sort of incident that makes you wince even watching it back on a small screen.

Footage circulating on social media shows the operator lying motionless for a brief but alarming stretch before showing signs of movement. Stadium staff were quickly on hand to assist, and the medical team appeared calm but purposeful as they assessed the situation.

Umarov himself, to his credit, was visibly shaken. He immediately crouched down to check on the operator, waving urgently toward the touchline for assistance before being ushered back by officials. It was a decent human moment in what could have been an ugly scene.

“These pitchside workers are incredibly exposed,” one former football safety officer noted on social media. “They’re right up against the action with very little protection between them and a player running at full sprint.”

The operator was eventually helped to their feet, which drew a warm round of applause from supporters inside the ground. Whether they required further medical attention after leaving the pitch isn’t yet known.

It does raise a genuine question about pitchside safety at international level. Camera operators sit millimetres from the action, often focused entirely through a lens rather than on what’s coming directly at them. For all the technology FIFA pours into these tournaments, the people behind the cameras remain remarkably vulnerable.

Colombia went on to win the match, though few will be talking about the scoreline today. Whether FIFA takes another look at pitchside positioning guidelines after this one remains to be seen.
